Ephesians 4:1-32 NABRE - Speech Choir Chalcedony

Script for Speech Choir:

Ephesians 4:1-32 NABRE

I, then, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to live in a manner worthy of the call you have received, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another through love, striving to preserve the unity of the spirit through the bond of peace: one body and one Spirit, as you were also called to the one hope of your call; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. Diversity of Gifts. But grace was given to each of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift. Therefore, it says: “He ascended on high and took prisoners captive; he gave gifts to men.” What does “he ascended” mean except that he also descended into the lower [regions] of the earth? The one who descended is also the one who ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things. And he gave some as apostles, others as prophets, others as evangelists, others as pastors and teachers, to equip the holy ones for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of faith and knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the extent of the full stature of Christ, so that we may no longer be infants, tossed by waves and swept along by every wind of teaching arising from human trickery, from their cunning in the interests of deceitful scheming. Rather, living the truth in love, we should grow in every way into him who is the head, Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, with the proper functioning of each part, brings about the body’s growth and builds itself up in love. Renewal in Christ. So I declare and testify in the Lord that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds; darkened in understanding, alienated from the life of God because of their ignorance, because of their hardness of heart, they have become callous and have handed themselves over to licentiousness for the practice of every kind of impurity to excess. That is not how you learned Christ, assuming that you have heard of him and were taught in him, as truth is in Jesus, that you should put away the old self of your former way of life, corrupted through deceitful desires, and be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and put on the new self, created in God’s way in righteousness and holiness of truth. Rules for the New Life. Therefore, putting away falsehood, speak the truth, each one to his neighbor, for we are members one of another. Be angry but do not sin; do not let the sun set on your anger, and do not leave room for the devil. The thief must no longer steal, but rather labor, doing honest work with his [own] hands, so that he may have something to share with one in need. No foul language should come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for needed edification, that it may impart grace to those who hear. And do not grieve the holy Spirit of God, with which you were sealed for the day of redemption. All bitterness, fury, anger, shouting, and reviling must be removed from you, along with all malice. [And] be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving one another as God has forgiven you in Christ.

ONLY ONE EARTH – NO PLANET B

World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated annually on the fifth day of June, and is the United Nations' principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of the environment. First held in 1973, it has been a platform for raising awareness on environmental issues such as marine pollutionoverpopulationglobal warmingsustainable development and wildlife crime. World Environment Day is a global platform for public outreach, with participation from over 143 countries annually. Each year, the program has provided a theme and forum for businesses, non government organizations, communities, governments and celebrities to advocate environmental causes.

World Environment Day 2022 is the biggest international day for the environment. Led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and held annually since 1973, it has grown to be the largest global platform for environmental outreach. It is celebrated by millions of people across the world. World Environment Day 2022 is hosted by Sweden. “Only One Earth" is the campaign slogan, with the focus on “Living Sustainably in Harmony with Nature”.

Environmental concerns started to emerge only in the early ‘70s. More and more scientific evidence was compiled and pointed to the huge toll of the global development trajectory on nature. At the Stockholm conference, delegates therefore recognized that we have “Only One Earth”, and that the goals of poverty reduction and environment protection are closely interlinked. The following words from the conference declaration became the cornerstone for later development agendas, including the Sustainable Development Goals: “Man has the fundamental right to freedom, equality and adequate conditions of life, in an environment of a quality that permits a life of dignity and well-being, and he bears a solemn responsibility to protect and improve the environment for present and future generations”.

50 years on, these words are more relevant than ever. It is not surprising that “Only One Earth” was symbolically chosen as the slogan for the 2022 World Environment Day. During the past few days, the international community gathered in Sweden for the Stockholm+50 conference under the theme “a healthy planet for the prosperity of all – our responsibility, our opportunity”, to discuss urgent and bold actions needed to secure a more sustainable future. Indeed, despite positive progress on policies, science and technology, the alarm related to the health of our planet is ringing loudly to announce that we have entered into an emergency mode due to multiple interconnected planetary crises ranging from climate change to biodiversity loss to pollution, and that these are intensifying inequalities, health risks and global insecurity.

There is only one Earth meaning there’s only one planet to live on. There is no such as a Planet B that’s why we must be better and nature-caring humans, so we would be able to live longer in this world. We always do the Plan A which is A is for Action to make the only planet we have safe and productive for this generation, and the other future generations. And so, we must be living sustainably in harmony with nature. Remember: ONLY ONE EARTH – NO PLANET B

FOUR GRADINGS OF LEARNING OF FUN

I have learned a lot about Community Based Research, Sitemap, and FrontPage. I finally made a web page for my CBC. Still, we're doing blogs, and this is going to be the last one. And just like what I shared with the first quarter, I am doing things that I love, still even with learning. Starting it up, it does have hardships. You will need to balance your time and you need to adjust. But I realize that you grow further and you start to feel better with what you do. I love this quarter for I can bring out my thoughts and opinions in certain topics.

To Ma'am Vera Cruz, thank you for being a very dynamic and great teacher. ICT could be never fun and as knowledgeable without you. I can say that it is one of the best subjects I have this school year.

And moving on, I will still continue to learn and see if I can grow some skills with the lessons that we have not only for the fourth quarter, but all of the quarters from first to last. I want to see what these lessons from all the quarters will be giving us, and I hope I can use what I have learned with my life. Ma'am, thank you for the four gradings of learning and fun.

Cheers to Father’s Day!

Father's Day is a holiday of honoring fatherhood and paternal bonds, as well as the influence of fathers in society. In Catholic countries of Europe, it has been celebrated on March 19 as Saint Joseph's Day since the Middle Ages. In the United States, Father's Day was founded by Sonora Smart Dodd, and celebrated on the third Sunday of June for the first time in 1910. The day is held on various dates across the world, and different regions maintain their own traditions of honoring fatherhood. Father's Day is a recognized public holiday in Lithuania and some parts of Spain and was regarded as such in Italy until 1977. It is a national holiday in EstoniaSamoa, and equivalently in South Korea, where it is celebrated as Parents' Day. The holiday complements similar celebrations honoring family members, such as Mother's DaySiblings Day, and Grandparents' Day.

Father’s Day is celebrated annually on the third Sunday in June in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, India, and a number of other countries around the world. Many countries celebrate this holiday at other times of the year. Father's Day for the year 2022 is celebrated/ observed on Sunday, June 19th. Father's Day is observed on the third Sunday of June. It honors all fathers, grandfathers, great-grandfathers, and father figures for their contribution. The Day was created to complement Mother's Day.

Father’s Day is celebrated in every country of the world to honor fathers. The purpose of celebrating this special day is to celebrate the importance of a father and to appreciate his hard work and sacrifices. Father’s Day is a time for people to celebrate the men that they have in their lives. For children, it is a day to show appreciation for their fathers and father-figures. For adults, it is a day to show much they love and appreciate the hard work of fathers and husbands in their lives.

And as well with motherhood, fatherhood is difficult. And Father’s Day should be celebrated to remind us the importance of having a caring and loving father in our lives. Even it’s just a day, it should adore the challenges that fatherhood has. So to all the fathers, especially to my favourite guy in this universe, my Dada, cheers to Father’s Day!

Philippine Independence: The Most Significant Event In Our Country’s History.

Independence Day (Filipino: Araw ng Kasarinlán; also known as Araw ng Kalayaan, "Day of Freedom") is an annual national holiday in the Philippines observed on June 12, commemorating the declaration of Philippine independence from Spain in 1898. On June 5, 1898, Aguinaldo issued a decree at his house located in what was then known as Cavite El Viejo proclaiming June 12, 1898 as the day of independence. The Acta de la Proclamacion de la Independencia del Pueblo Filipino was solemnly read by its author, Ambrosio Rianzares Bautista, Aguinaldo's war counselor and special delegate. The 21-page declaration was signed by 98 Filipinos, appointed by Aguinaldo, and one retired American artillery officer, Colonel L. M. Johnson. The Philippine flag was officially unfurled for the first time at about 4:30 p.m, as the Marcha Nacional Filipina was played by the band of San Francisco de Malabon. (Independence Day (Philippines) - Wikipedia)

National Flag Day in the Philippines is celebrated on May 28. It commemorates the first use of the Philippine flag after the victory in the Battle of Alapan in 1898. The current national flag of the Philippines was created by the Filipino revolutionary Emilio Aguinaldo in 1897. It is a horizontal bicolor of royal blue over scarlet red. There is a white equilateral triangle at the hoist with a golden sun with 8 rays in the center and a 5-pointed gold star at each vertex. The flag was first raised after the Battle of Alapan that occurred on May 28, 1898. The battle was fought between the Filipino revolutionaries led by Aguinaldo and Spanish troops. The Spanish were defeated, and the revolutionaries recaptured the province of Cavite. After the battle, Aguinaldo entered Cavite City and unfurled the would-be national flag for the first time. Flag Day in the Philippines is marked with the raising of the national flag. The flag is permanently displayed from May 28 to June 12 (Independence Day) by all government offices and agencies, businesses, educational institutions and private residences. In recent years, the flag days have been extended until June 30 to celebrate the country's independence and promote patriotism. (National Flag Day in the Philippines / May 28, 2022 (anydayguide.com))

The declaration of independence is one of the most important events in Philippine history. The country was colonized by many nations for hundreds of years, and finally achieving the freedom they yearned after all the lost and sacrifices is a huge milestone. As we celebrate the holiday, may we not forget its significance in our country’s history. Our heroes put their lives at risk, so let’s remember the sacrifices of our heroes. As well, let us all show our love for our country, and lastly but not definitely the least, let’s spread awareness of Filipino history and culture. For Philippine Independence is the most significant event in our country’s history.

THE REASON WHY I AM DREAMING ON EARTH

Mother's Day is a celebration honoring the mother of the family or individual, as well as motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society. It is celebrated on different days in many parts of the world, most commonly in the months of March or May. It complements similar celebrations, largely pushed by commercial interests, honoring family members, such as Father's Day, Siblings Day, and Grandparents' Day.

While some countries have a multi-century history of a day to celebrate mothers, the modern American version of the holiday began in the United States in the early 20th century at the initiative of Anna Jarvis, who organized the first Mother's Day service of worship and celebration at Andrews Methodist Episcopal Church in Grafton, West Virginia, which serves as the International Mother's Day Shrine today. It is not directly related to the many traditional celebrations of mothers and motherhood that have existed throughout the world over thousands of years, such as the Greek cult to Cybele, the mother deity Rhea, the Roman festival of Hilaria, or the other Christian ecclesiastical Mothering Sunday celebration (associated with the image of Mother Church). However, in some countries, Mother's Day is still synonymous with these older traditions. (Mother's Day - Wikipedia)

Mother’s day is very important for it is the only day in the whole year that a mother can won a whole day for themselves–the only day that they are celebrated. Mother’s day is the day where we can express respect, honor, and love towards the women who carried us months in their wombs and gave birth to us, the women who brought food in the table, the women who made a home a home, and the women who gave us life and love. Who are they? They are our mothers. And that day should be celebrated well and we should acknowledge every effort our mothers made, and we should see the important role of mothers in our society.

Mother’s Day is one of those important days that I and my siblings await. We might not be the children that buy gifts to our Mama for that very special day we try hard to let her enjoy it. We go to church, we greet her and the other mothers that our big family has, and we celebrate in front of a special meal. We make her feel loved and appreciated. And this year, it was even more special. We had a plus one on our family that also calls her Mama. We were once three and now we’re four that makes the love and appreciation bigger. So to all Mothers out there, especially to our Mama, we celebrate and honor you. To my Mama who always believe and see the best out of me, I love you with all my heart. You gave and brought me to this world, and you are the reason why I am dreaming on Earth.

A Tapestry of Culture and Arts Woven

A Tapestry of Culture and Arts Woven

To take us with a little history drive of the Binatbatan Festival, here’s  “a tapestry of culture and arts woven by a miracle that saved the residents in 1882.” Go back to where the festival came from and understand the miracle that saved the residents in December 1882. Viva Vigan Binatbatan Festival of the Arts celebrated from the last week of April to the first week of May was originally the Feast of the Natives that began on May 3, 1883, according to the writings of Damaso King, well-known Vigan historian. The festival began when an epidemic killed 934 residents in a month in 1882. The epidemic started Nov. 12 and ended Dec. 15. This happened 30 years after a chapel was built in 1852 in the cemetery of Vigan. The huge number of deaths in such short time alarmed the naturales or native inhabitants and mestizos or residents with Spanish blood that they asked Dr. Evaristo Abaya, the parish priest to request for the visit to Vigan of the Santo Cristo Milagroso of Sinait town. (Ilocano Culture: Viva Vigan Binatbatan Festival of the Arts — Tawid News Magazine)

Binatbatan festival was introduced to celebrate Abel Iloco hand-loom weaving. Binatbatan is the process of beating cotton pods to remove the seeds.  This is shown through the Binatbatan street dancing and showdown. Binatbatan Street Dancing is a known event that a lot of bigueños and even other people like tourists wait for. Binatbatan became another Ilocano folk dance or an occupational dance. Performers of this dance maneuver in and out of the parallel sticks and the resulting rhythm and speed of the beating of sticks made a colorful and lively display. (Treasures of Ilocandia and the World: Binatbatan Festival of Paoay (ilocandiatreasures.com)).

There are a lot of events that the Binatbatan Festivals bring. And this year, the pandemic didn’t stop us for celebrating our beloved festival. Loud drums and tapping of bamboo sticks will be heard once again. The binatbatan dancers will dominate the streets, and you can see the colourful and festive Abel Iloco on their costumes. Still, remember to follow the protocols when watching or attending such events. And always remember to celebrate and respect this tapestry of culture and arts woven by a miracle that saved the residents in 1882.
